Next weekend is a happy weekend for runners, joggers, and active families here in North County.

 Carlsbad Marathon & San Elijo 5KSaturday, January 21 is the San Elijo Hills 5K. Coined as the “Toughest 5K in North County” this event is for both serious runners, as well as families just looking to get out and have some fun together. The 5K will feature a new challenging1K course and a 100-yard kids dash. After the race, there will be a street fair with vendors, music, food trucks, jumpies, games and more. It’s a full day of fun for everyone. Home Carlsbad Marathon & San Elijo 5KOn Sunday, January 22, Carlsbad is the place to be with the Tri-City Medical Carlsbad Marathon & Half. A runner’s dream, this race is a popular one with runners from around the country and even around the world. 10,000 runners and walkers will participate. Both races start and finish at Westfield Plaza Camino Real located at 2525 El Camino  Real in Carlsbad. The marathon starts at 6 a.m. and the half marathon’s wave starts kick off at 7:30 a.m. The event also includes Health & Lifestyle Expo (free and open to the public) which features exciting vendors, interactive displays, free samples, and bargains on apparel and equipment. The Expo will be held on Friday, Jan. 20 (2 to 6 p.m.), Saturday, Jan. 21 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday, Jan. 22 (7 a.m.-to noon) under a big top tent at the Westfield Plaza Camino Real.
